Mahogany side chair with serpentine crest rail; pierced Gothic splat with floral carving and a double figure eight motif; floral carving on stiles and serpentine seat rail; silk upholstered seat; front cabriole legs with carved knees and hairy paw feet.

Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker in Edinburgh and London, Thomas Affleck emigrated to Philadelphia in 1763. His clients included wealthy Philadelphians, some of them fellow Quakers.
